Can we continue to afford Senior entitlements?

Older Americans soak up the majority of federal spending, point out
Republican smart boys like Glenn Beck and other Ryan plan supporters.
Close to two thirds of the budget goes to Senior programs such as
Social Security, Medicare for the elderly poor, Medicaid, and a range
of other costly programs trying to lift the poor into the middle class
mainstream.

BUT CAN WE AFFORD IT?

Now do you see why Republicans have lashed out against the tax-and-
spend liberals ever since the days of FDR, Lincoln, and the socalled
founding fathers, who half seemed to want to save the world, and lift
the poor into self-sufficiency.

Social Security and Medicare should be means-tested. That will help.

Ironically, even the liberal Barack Obama has suggested that, if
carefully crafted, a means-tested Social Security and Medicare
provisions could very well work.
